Wroxham Barns welcomed the Anglia Boatbuilders Association for their annual Apprentice
Awards on Thursday 9th December. This is an important event in the Associations’ calendar where the boat builder and marine engineer apprentices are chosen and rewarded with trophies and tool vouchers.

The Awards are held in conjunction with Gt Yarmouth College. Candidates were chosen by a team of judges from the industry and the college. This is always a difficult task as the apprentices work in a range of different working environments from production facilities to Broadland boatyards where they have to multi task. The standards are very high, a point which was emphasised by the chairman of the judges David Russell of Landamores in his speech.

In her address, chairman of ABA,Mary Haines congratulated all finalists and winners and emphasized that this was just the beginning for them and if they continued to work hard they would be the factory managers of the future to continue our proud heritage of boatbuilding in this Region!

Following the Awards, an entertaining illustrated talk was given by Anglia Afloat contributor and boating historian Jamie Campbell about the” History of Yachting on the Broads”
